Creativity has always been part of my life.

I’ve been painting for most of my adult years, but around 2015 I discovered furniture refinishing as something more than a hobby — it became my creative reset. Taking a forgotten piece and transforming it into something beautiful again felt equal parts art, problem-solving, and therapy.

What started as a personal outlet quickly turned into a passion for rescue — not just rescuing furniture, but rescuing creativity itself.

Because sometimes people don’t realize what they’re capable of creating until someone shows them how.

When Creativity Became Community

Like so many others, the pandemic shifted everything.

As we all spent more time at home, people began looking for ways to reconnect with their spaces — and with themselves. Furniture painting and DIY creativity became more than trends; they became outlets for comfort, expression, and joy.

Rescued by Lacey grew right alongside that movement.

What began as sharing projects and supplies quickly turned into helping others rediscover their own creativity — whether they were refinishing a family heirloom, learning something new, or simply looking for a moment of calm in a chaotic time.

In 2021, we opened our brick-and-mortar shop in Milltown, New Jersey with one simple goal:

To create a space where creativity feels approachable, encouraging, and shared.

The Heart of What We Do: Teaching

While rescuing furniture will always be part of my story, teaching is truly the heart of Rescued by Lacey.

There is nothing better than watching someone walk into a workshop unsure of themselves and leave proud of something they created with their own hands.

From furniture painting and embellishing techniques to decoupage, resin art, and creative transformation projects, our workshops are designed to remove intimidation and replace it with confidence.

A Mother & Daughter Business

Rescued by Lacey is proudly a mother-daughter business.

My mom Kathy is an essential part of everything we do — helping customers, supporting workshops, and making sure our creative space feels welcoming to everyone who walks through the door.

Together, we’ve built more than a shop. We’ve built a community centered around encouragement, creativity, and the belief that anyone can learn something new.

And while Ziggy doesn’t spend much time at the shop (he’s still working on keeping all four paws on the ground at all times), he’s almost always by my side during commission projects — offering moral support, creative supervision, and occasional unsolicited opinions.
